Let’s start our amazing, thrilling, and exciting Everest base camp journey. We’ll take an early morning flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. The journey takes around 30-35 minutes by flight.

Lukla is the starting point of the Everest region trek. Upon reaching Lukla, we’ll rest and have food. Today is the first day of our trek; therefore, we’ll take a gentle start to hiking.

We’ll commence our steps down towards Phakding, which takes us around 3-4 hrs. Throughout our journey, we’ll see the elegant villages, rhododendrons, and pine forests. We’ll pass along the Dudhkoshi River. While crossing a suspension bridge, you’ll see vibrant colourful prayer flags.

In the end, we’ll reach Phakding. We’ll have dinner and an overnight stay there.

The trek from Phakding to Namche Bazar is a renowned part of the Everest trekking region. On the second day of the short EBC trek, we’ll start our trek after having breakfast.

On the day 2nd, we’ll hike around 6-7 hrs. Our destination is Namche Bazar also known as the “Gateway of Everest”. Today, we will be passes through Khumbu region of Nepal.

After following the Dudhkoshi River and crossing the suspension bridges, we’ll reach the Sagarmatha National Park. It is UNESCO-listed and home to several wildlife animals, flora & fauna, and different species of birds.

Upon taking the necessary permissions, we’ll forward our steps ahead. After walking for 4-5 hrs, we’ll reach Namche Bazar. It is a prime centre of the Everest trekking region. At Namche, you’ll find several hotels, restaurants, antique shops, ATM centres and many more. We’ll have a night’s stay and a delicious dinner at a luxurious hotel.

Our short EBC trek will continue on day 3. After having a mouthwatering breakfast in the morning, we’ll mark our steps ahead.

Today will be a fantastic day for us. Throughout the route, we’ll see stunning views of Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, Thamserku, and several other peaks.

Initially, we descend to Phunki Tenga, later crossing the Dudhkoshi river. Upon that, there is an uphill climb to reach Tengboche.

At a height of 3860 m, Tengboche is highly admirable for its old monastery and flawless views of mountains and landscapes. We’ll have a night stay at the lodge or the tea house.

You’ll be delighted after having a mouthwatering breakfast. Now it’s time to take our steps to another destination. On the 4th day of the Budgetary EBC Short trek, the trip will continue till we reach Dingboche.

We’ll descend through the stunning rhododendron forests before reaching Deboche. Upon crossing Imja Khola, we’ll land our steps in the elegant Sherpa settlement, Pangboche.

At Pangboche, we’ll take a rest and have Lunch. From this place, we’ll gradually ascend upwards.

As the day ends, we’ll reach Dingboche. From the top of this place, we’ll have a flawless view of Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and other surrounding peaks.

I hope you all are enjoying our Short EBC trek. Currently, we are in the mid of our trip. Today is a challenging but rewarding expedition from Dingboche to Lobuche.

On day 5th, we have to cover the distances of approximately 10 kilometres, within 5-6 hrs. Today, we’ll gain an elevation of roughly 500 meters above.

After starting the trek, we’ll gradually pass through Pheriche village. Soon, we will see the Khumbu glaciers that take us to the Thukla Hills. At this place, you’ll see the memorial statue of brave climbers who left the world during the Everest trek.

At the end of the day, we’ll reach Lobuche. It is a promising place for tea houses night stay, and a tasty dinner.

Eventually, the day has come. Today will be a challenging and equally rewarding day for us. We are going for the Everest Base Camp (5,364 meters). After taking breakfast, we’ll leave Lobuche and continue our trek.

Today our trail will be rough and rugged and follow the Khumbu Glacier. Before reaching Gorakshep, we’ll admire the flawless views of Pumori, Nuptse, and other surrounding peaks. Upon having lunch and some rest, we forward our steps for the Everest Base Camp. The trails are slippery and possibly icy.

After getting to the Everest Base Camp, you’ll know “Heaven is a Myth and Nepal’s is true”. We’ll see the gigantic views of breathtaking mountains like Mt. EVEREST, Pumori, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and other surrounding peaks. After taking photographs and making lots of memories, we’ll step down to Gorakshep for a night’s stay.

The 7th day of the Everest region trekking is going to be remarkable for us. Today, we are going to mark our feet on Kala Patthar, which has an elevation of 5,644 meters.

To start the trek, we’ll wake up around 4-5 am in the morning. After getting ready, we’ll follow our trails and reach the vantage point of the Everest region, Kala Patthar.
From the top of this point, you’ll be overjoyed and mesmerized by seeing the magnificent views. You’ll get a chance to explore mountains like Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, and others.

After spending some quality time, taking photos, we’ll return back to Gorakshep. We’ll have lunch at this place. After taking a rest for a while, our steps trek down to Pheriche, where we have an overnight stay.

Today is the last day of our walking journey. On the ninth day of our short EBC hike, we’ll trek down to Lukla from Namche. We’ll follow the same path and descend through the beautiful valleys. It will take approximately 6-7 hours to conclude our 9th-day trek. As the day ends, we are in the lodge in Lukla city.

Drinking Water Facilities

The drinking water is readily available throughout the Everest trek route. You’ll find several tea houses, lodges, and shops where you can easily buy drinking water. The prices may range from  $ 50-500 NPR, varying with the altitudes.

There are a majority of tea houses and lodges along the route that also offer boiled water to the hikers. It will be good for your health. After boiling, it kills the bacteria and becomes safe for consumption.

It will be better if you refill the bottle when you are in the lower region. Aside from this, you may also use water purification tablets, which you can easily purchase in Kathmandu or Namche.

 (Note: Be conscious about your health and don’t grasp water from taps, wells, or rivers during your hiking routes.)

Winter (late Dec to February) – Trekking in winter in the Everest region is not a good choice for you. You need to carefully plan & prepare.  During this time, there are extreme cold and harsh weather conditions.

The higher altitude may become slippery due to heavy snowfall. It may also lead you to frostbite.

Despite that, winter is also a good time to enjoy. There will be a lesser crowds compared to other seasons. Additionally, you’ll be overwhelmed by seeing the snow-capped mountains. The Everest region is a popular trekking area of Nepal; so tea houses and lodges are open for traveler’s.

Monsoon (Jun – August) – The Monsoon is the last best option for trekking in the Everest region. It is challenging for the trekkers. Permits & Documents for the Everest Base Camp Short Trek

You need to take permission from the authority to conclude your trek in the region of Everest. There, you need two significant permits.

  • Sagarmatha National Park Permit
  • Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Manaslu Permit

These both permits can be easily taken from Kathmandu – Nepal Tourism Board or from Monjo.  These permits are needed by the government to build trails in the Everest region, for infrastructure development, and overall growth of the people of that community.

For the Khumbu Pasang, you have to pay around 2000 NPR. For the Sagarmatha National Park Permit, one has to pay 3000 NPR (EXCLUDING vat).

While taking the permits, your passport must be valid for at least six months. Furthermore, you need 4-5 passport-size photographs.
