Detail Information about Everest View Luxury Trek return by Helicopter
Trek Difficulty & Fitness Tips
The Everest View Luxury Trek return by Helicopter is considered an easy to moderate trek. Daily walking times vary from 2 to 6 hours with gradual ascents. You climb gently each day, so the challenge remains manageable for travelers in good shape. We recommend at least 2–3 months of regular cardio training (hiking, running or cycling) and leg-strength exercises (stairs, lunges) before your trip. Comfortable hiking boots and good stamina will make the trail pleasant. As a reference, one of the longer days (Phakding to Namche) covers about 12 km with some steep sections. Staying active daily will help you fully enjoy this unique luxury Everest trek adventure.
Acclimatization & Altitude Strategy
Everest View Luxury Trek return by Helicopter carefully manages altitude gain. You fly into 2,840 m on Day 2, then descend to 2,610 m at Phakding, giving your body time to adjust. Day 3 climbs to 3,440 m in Namche Bazaar, where we spend a night to acclimatize. Each day’s ascent is moderate (reaching 3,880 m at Everest View Hotel). We advise slow pacing, plenty of water (3–4 liters per day), and a high-carbohydrate diet. Avoid alcohol and smoking. Guides monitor your condition closely. If anyone develops symptoms of altitude sickness (headache, nausea, dizziness), communicate immediately. We carry oxygen bottles and can administer Diamox if needed (after consulting a doctor). The itinerary includes an acclimatization night at Namche (3,440 m) to help adaptation. Eating light meals and resting at Namche are key. If needed, we can quickly evacuate by helicopter to lower altitude. These precautions greatly reduce any altitude troubles and ensure a safe acclimatization strategy.
Accommodation and meals
We have carefully selected luxury lodges for each night of the trek. In Phakding and Namche we stay at Yeti Mountain Home lodges, which offer comfortable beds, cozy common areas, and hot showers. At 3,880 m you will stay at the Everest View Hotel, a first-class mountain hotel with modern amenities and 360° panoramas. (A pre- or post-trek hotel in Kathmandu is available upon request.)
All trek meals are included (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Menus feature Nepali and Western dishes: dal bhat, soups, noodles, pasta, eggs and local specialties. All food is prepared fresh. Vegetable and meat options are available, and special diets can be accommodated with advance notice. Dining is in communal lodges where you can relax with fellow trekkers. Tea, coffee and snacks are served daily as well. With quality meals and lodgings provided every night, you can focus on enjoying the trek.
A typical day in the Trek
Each day on this trek follows a similar routine. You will wake early (around 6:00 AM) and enjoy a hearty breakfast at the lodge. After packing your gear, your guide will brief the group about the day’s trail. You then hike for 3 to 6 hours through forests, villages and mountain paths. Along the way, you will pause for scenic breaks and lunch (provided at a tea house or lodge). Midday often brings clear mountain views and sunshine.
In the afternoon, you reach the next lodge destination. You check in and change into warm clothing. Evenings are for relaxing: enjoy a hot shower, tea, and dinner with your group. Lodge dining halls are cozy places to swap stories. Nights are early to get rest. Throughout the day you carry only a light backpack, since porters carry your main luggage. This rhythm of hiking by day and resting by night makes the Everest View Luxury Trek return by Helicopter very comfortable.
Mountain vistas and wildlife
The Everest region is home to some of the world’s most spectacular mountain scenery. From the trail you will see towering peaks such as Everest (8,848 m), Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and many others. The Everest View Hotel terrace provides a 360° panorama of the Khumbu range. On a clear day you can see almost all the major peaks above 6,000 m. Sunrise and sunset over the mountains are especially magnificent.
Keep an eye out for Himalayan wildlife along the way. You may spot Himalayan thar (mountain goats) or musk deer grazing on rocky slopes. Forests are alive with colorful birds like the Himalayan monal (Danphe, Nepal’s national bird) and eagles soaring overhead. Snow leopards and red pandas are rare, but watch for monkeys (langur) near villages. Our guides point out wildlife and scenic spots. Binoculars can be helpful. These natural wonders add to the magic of this luxury Everest trek experience.
Altitude Sickness
Although our trek stays below 3,900 m, altitude sickness can still occur. Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) can cause headache, nausea, dizziness or fatigue. To minimize risk, we advise ascending slowly, drinking plenty of water (3–4 liters per day), and taking regular rest breaks. Avoid alcohol and sedatives. Our guides monitor each traveler’s condition closely. If symptoms appear, communicate immediately. We carry oxygen and can administer Diamox if needed (after consulting a doctor). The itinerary includes an acclimatization night at Namche (3,440 m) to help adjustment. If anyone cannot acclimatize, we can quickly evacuate by helicopter to lower altitude. Taking aspirin or ibuprofen can help a mild headache. These precautions greatly reduce any altitude troubles.
Permit & Cost
For this trek, you need the Sagarmatha National Park permit and a TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card. The Sagarmatha permit costs about USD 30 and the TIMS card about USD 15. These fees are usually included if you book through a trekking company. We will arrange all permits (you need passport photos and cash for any fees).
In terms of cost, the major expense is the helicopter flight from Everest Base Camp back to Kathmandu. Package prices usually cover accommodation, meals, guides, domestic flights, and the helicopter. If booking independently, plan about $50 for permits and around $400–$500 per person for the helicopter (shared cost varies by group size). Always check current rates. Permits and the helicopter flight are the extra items to plan for in your budget on this Everest View Luxury Trek return by Helicopter.
Best time to do this trek
The best times for this luxury Everest trek are spring (March to May) and autumn (late September to November). In spring, the weather is generally clear and mild, and rhododendron forests are in bloom. Autumn also offers stable, clear skies and stunning mountain views after the monsoon. Daytime temperatures are comfortable for hiking, but nights are cold in the lodges.
Avoid the monsoon season (June–August) when trails are wet and clouds often block the views. Winter (December–February) is colder with short days; some lodges may close, but the trek can still be done by well-prepared trekkers with warm gear. Snow adds beauty but can challenge travel. Many trekkers plan around October and November for the clearest skies and stable weather in this Everest View Luxury Trek return by Helicopter.
Alternative trekking routes
If you have more time, several other routes explore the Everest region. The full Everest Base Camp trek (12–14 days) follows the Khumbu valley past Namche to Gorak Shep and Everest’s base. The Gokyo Lakes trek (also 12–14 days) goes west into glacial lakes for different scenery. The Three Passes trek is a challenging circuit (18+ days) over Renjo La, Cho La and Kongma La passes. For a shorter trek without a helicopter, the Pikey Peak trek (3–5 days) offers sunrise views of Everest from eastern Nepal. Each route provides a unique Himalayan experience; our team can customize routes to fit your interests and schedule.
Health and Travel Insurance
We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance that covers high-altitude trekking. Ensure your policy includes emergency evacuation (by helicopter), medical treatment and repatriation. Many plans exclude helicopter flights or adventure activities by default, so confirm those are covered. A coverage of at least US$50,000 is suggested, including Nepal as a destination. Keep a copy of your insurance details and emergency contacts with you. Travel insurance is mandatory for all trekkers. In case of illness or injury, your guide will coordinate with insurance providers. With proper coverage, you can relax and enjoy this luxury Everest trek knowing help is available if needed.
Transportation
This trek uses both airplane and helicopter travel. On Day 2 you will take a 35–40 minute mountain flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,840 m) on a Twin Otter aircraft. If Kathmandu flights are unavailable, we may drive 4–6 hours to Ramechhap Airport for an alternate Lukla flight. The Lukla airport is small and high, so flights depend on weather. Please limit your baggage (around 15–16 kg) to meet small-plane restrictions.
All trekking between Lukla and Everest View Hotel is done on foot. On the last day, a helicopter will carry you from Everest View Hotel (3880 m) over Everest Base Camp back to Kathmandu (or via Lukla). The helicopter ride is included in the itinerary. After landing in Kathmandu, a private transfer will take you to your hotel or airport. The guide and staff handle all bookings and logistics, letting you relax.
Fitness and Preparation
Train well before the trek. Engage in aerobic exercises (hiking, running, cycling) several times a week for 2–3 months before departure. Practice hiking with a loaded daypack (5–10 kg) on hills or stairs to build stamina and leg strength. Do some strength training and stretching to reduce injury risk. If possible, complete a multi-day hike locally to test your endurance. If you can comfortably hike 10–12 km at a moderate pace on flat ground, you will be well prepared for the daily distances.
Consult your doctor before high-altitude travel. Ensure routine vaccinations are up to date and get any recommended shots. Pack a personal first-aid kit (pain relievers, altitude medicine, sunscreen, blister care, etc.). Break in your hiking boots well in advance. Make a detailed packing checklist: bring warm layers, rain gear, a headlamp, and any special items. Training and the support from Nomad Adventure Treks make this Everest View Luxury Trek return by Helicopter accessible even for beginners.
Guide and Staff
Our trekking team is headed by experienced English-speaking Sherpa guides. Each group has a guide trained in mountain first aid. Guides carry oxygen and a medical kit. We also provide local porters to carry luggage (typically one porter for two trekkers). Lodge staff handle cooking and cleaning at each stop.
Our guides are Himalayan locals who know the terrain intimately. They lead the trek at a safe pace, share knowledge about Sherpa culture and the mountains, and handle all logistics. Kitchen staff prepare fresh meals each evening. This professional team manages every detail on the Everest View Luxury Trek return by Helicopter, letting you relax and enjoy the adventure.
Is this trip beginner-friendly?
Yes. This Everest View Luxury Trek return by Helicopter is suitable for beginners who have moderate fitness. The trek involves only walking (no technical climbing) and covers shorter distances each day. Comfortable lodges each night allow for full rest. With porters carrying your heavy gear and Sherpa guides leading the way, even first-time trekkers can manage well.
We recommend some prior preparation (see Fitness section) and following the guide’s pace and advice on acclimatization. Most important is a positive attitude and listening to your body. For example, if you can comfortably hike 10 km on flat ground, you will do fine on this route. Many first-time trekkers have completed this route safely and enjoyed the journey.
Gadgets charging and Internet
Charging and internet access are limited on the trail. Most lodges provide charging stations powered by solar or generators, usually for a small fee (around $2–$3 per device). Bring a universal power adapter. Also bring a portable battery pack, as power supply is limited at high altitude. Charging stations are usually in communal areas; remember to turn devices off when not in use.
The Everest View Hotel and some Namche Bazaar lodges offer Wi-Fi for a fee. Phakding and Lukla lodges generally have no internet. Expect only occasional cellphone signal (3G/4G) on the Ncell network, mostly in Lukla and Namche. You may want to buy a Nepali SIM card in Kathmandu for phone or data. Plan for mostly offline trekking – this luxury Everest trek encourages you to disconnect and enjoy the scenery.
Visa and Permit
All travelers need a Nepal entry visa and the required trekking permits. Most nationalities can obtain a visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport (15-day visa ~$30 USD, 30-day ~$50 USD). Bring passport photos and cash (USD) for the visa fee, or apply for an online visa beforehand.
Trekking permits (Sagarmatha National Park and TIMS) are separate. We will arrange these, but you should carry two passport photos and cash (roughly $50 total) for the fees. Ensure your passport has at least 6 months validity. Keep copies of your visa and permits during the trek. Your guide will carry the original permits as you hike. With these documents in order, you can focus on the trek without visa hassles.
Your extra expenses
Budget for some personal expenses that are not covered by the trek package. Hot drinks (coffee, tea, cocoa) and snacks at lodges usually cost a few dollars each. Alcoholic drinks (beer or wine) and bottled soda or water are extra. Charging, Wi-Fi, laundry or hot shower fees at lodges are not included.
Tipping your guide and porter is expected (see FAQ). You’ll also pay for your Nepal visa on arrival and any meals or tours in Kathmandu. Souvenirs, extra snacks and drinks along the trail are out-of-pocket. In total, plan for around $200–$300 USD per person in extra cash (or Nepali rupees) to cover these items, depending on your preferences. For example, a beer might cost $5–$8, and a latte around $3.
Photography Hotspots & Best Views
This trek offers many picture-perfect moments. The top spot is the Everest View Hotel terrace, which provides an unobstructed panorama of Everest (8,848 m), Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and more. Sunrise and sunset from here are spectacular. On Day 3 in Namche Bazaar, look back toward the valley for a famous view of Everest and Ama Dablam. The Hillary Suspension Bridge area (Day 2) and Benkar Village have lovely mountain backdrops.
The helicopter flight is a highlight for photography: you’ll capture Everest Base Camp, the Khumbu Glacier and the peaks from above. Even the Lukla flight offers amazing aerial views through the plane window. Small Sherpa villages like Khumjung or the local monastery frame the mountains in cultural shots. Keep your camera ready at every turn – almost every stop on this luxury Everest trek has a great view.
Frequently Asked Questions
What gear and clothing should I bring for the Everest View trek?
Bring layered clothing (thermal base layers, fleece jackets, and a waterproof outer shell), sturdy hiking boots, warm hat and gloves, sunglasses, sunscreen, and trekking poles. Pack essentials like a daypack, water bottle, headlamp, and personal medications. Layers are key since temperatures vary widely.
Do I need to bring a sleeping bag?
You should bring a 3-season sleeping bag or a warm liner. Lodges provide blankets, but nights at 3,800 m can be very cold. Having your own sleeping bag (rated around -5°C) ensures extra warmth and hygiene.
Are porters included in the trek package?
Yes. Typically one porter is provided for every two trekkers. The porter will carry your main luggage (up to around 15–18 kg each), leaving you with only a light daypack during hikes.
What happens if the Lukla flight is delayed or cancelled?
If the Lukla flight is delayed or cancelled due to weather, your guide will arrange an alternate plan. Options include flying the next morning or driving to Ramechhap to catch a flight from there. The itinerary is flexible to accommodate these changes safely.
Is the flight to Lukla safe and what is it like?
The Lukla flight is short (35–40 minutes) but incredibly scenic. The plane flies low through Himalayan valleys offering breathtaking mountain views. Pilots are very experienced. It can feel exciting or a bit bumpy, but it is a routine, safe flight.
Which vaccinations are recommended before this trek?
Routine vaccinations (Tetanus, Hepatitis A, Typhoid, etc.) are recommended. Consult a travel doctor at least a month before your trek. Some trekkers also take altitude medication (Diamox) as a precaution after consulting a doctor. Bring a basic first-aid kit with you.
What currency should I bring, and are ATMs available?
Bring US dollars and some Nepalese rupees. You can exchange money in Kathmandu. ATMs are available in Kathmandu and Namche Bazaar (though they sometimes run out of cash). Many lodges accept USD or card for extras. Carry enough cash in NPR for tips and small purchases.
What is a typical group size on this trek?
Group sizes vary. Many of our departures have 2–10 trekkers per group. Private custom trips are also possible. We keep groups small (often under 12) for a more personalized experience. You can request a private trip if you prefer.
Can children or older travelers join this trek?
Yes, this trek is suitable for older children (typically 12+) and fit older adults. There is no strict age limit, but participants should be healthy and able to walk 2–6 hours per day. Consult a doctor for any health concerns before traveling. Proper preparation makes the trek doable for most ages.
What is the highest sleeping altitude on the trek?
The highest place you sleep is the Everest View Hotel at 3,880 m (12,730 ft). Other overnight stops are at 2,610 m (Phakding) and 3,440 m (Namche). The gradual ascent schedule helps your body adapt safely.
Is hot water available every night?
Yes. The luxury lodges on this trek all have hot showers each evening or morning. A small charge may apply at some places, but hot water is generally available at every lodge, especially at Everest View Hotel and the Yeti Mountain Home lodges.
Is it safe to drink tap water on the trek?
No. Always drink boiled, filtered or bottled water. Lodges provide treated drinking water. You can use purification tablets or a filter for your water bottle. Staying well-hydrated with clean water is crucial to avoid illness.
Can I charge my electronics (phone, camera) on the trail?
Yes. Most lodges provide charging stations (usually powered by solar) for a small fee (about $2–$3 per device). Bring a universal adapter. Also bring a portable battery pack, as power supply is limited at high altitude. Charging is usually done in communal areas, so conserve battery between charges.
Is Wi-Fi or internet available during the trek?
Wi-Fi is limited. Namche Bazaar has internet cafes, and the Everest View Hotel offers Wi-Fi for a fee. Lodges in Phakding and Lukla generally have no internet. You might get occasional 3G/4G signal in Lukla or Namche if you have a Nepali SIM. Plan for mostly offline trekking – enjoy the digital break!
Are all meals included every day?
Yes. All meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) are included on trekking days. The lodges serve a variety of Nepali and Western dishes (rice, lentils, noodles, eggs, soup, etc.). Snacks and beverages beyond the provided meals (like bottled drinks, beer, tea/coffee, etc.) are at your own expense.
Are toilets and washing facilities available at lodges?
Yes. Lodges have flushing or composting toilets and washrooms. They are generally clean and well-maintained, especially at the luxury lodges we use. Private or semi-private bathrooms are provided. Basic handwashing facilities are available in dining areas.
What if someone in the group cannot continue the trek?
If someone cannot continue (due to fatigue or illness), the guide will arrange an evacuation, often by helicopter, to lower altitude or Kathmandu. We monitor health daily. Travel insurance should cover medical evacuation. Safety is our top priority, and our team will assist immediately if needed.
Can I extend this trek with additional days or tours?
Yes. You can extend your trip. After the trek ends in Kathmandu, you might add tours (Kathmandu cultural tours, Chitwan safari, etc.) or other treks. Let Nomad Adventure Treks know in advance if you want a custom extension. Many guests combine this trek with additional adventures in Nepal.
Is tipping expected and how much should I tip?
Tipping is customary. A common guideline is about $10–$15 USD per day for the guide and $5–$10 per day for each porter. You give this in cash (USD or NPR) at the end of the trek if you are satisfied with the service. This typically amounts to around 10–15% of the total trip cost per person.
What happens after the trek ends in Kathmandu?
After landing back in Kathmandu, the trek concludes. We will transfer you to your hotel or to the airport. You can then rest in the city, do some shopping, or continue with any onward travel plans. Nomad Adventure Treks can assist with hotel bookings or extra arrangements if needed.
