Introduction of Luxury Mera Peak Climbing with Heli Return
The journey begins in Kathmandu with a private airport transfer, trip briefing and preparation for the climb. Once you verify your gear, you fly together to Lukla, bypassing the road & flight route that is usually required for the approach. The trail from Lukla passes through the villages of Paiya, Panggom, Ningsow, Chhatra Khola and Kothe before reaching the higher Hinku Valley.
The path gradually ascends through forest, open fields and snow-covered areas. Overnight stay at Thangnag with a continuation on to Khare (5045 m / 16552 ft). This is the option that gradually ascends to Mera Peak and the surrounding mountains while enjoying a scenic ride.
The next day on Khare is acclimatisation and climbing training. Your climbing guide will teach you how to use equipment like crampons, ice axe, harness and climbing rope. A brief walk up to a higher spot close to Mera Base Camp also helps acclimatize you to the higher elevations that lie ahead.
The next big part of the journey is up to High Camp. The trail then goes through rocky and glacial landscape to Mera La and then to High Camp (5,780 m / 18,963 ft) from Khare. The climbing crew will inspect your gear and get you ready for the early morning summit hike.
The summit day normally starts around 2:00 am. As night envelops you, you begin to climb up the glacier and slowly ascend towards Mera Central. The final climb is tough, due to the cold temperature, steep terrain and thin air. From the summit (6,461 m / 21,198 ft), you are able to view a vast selection of peaks across the Himalayas, including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Baruntse, Cho Oyu and Kanchenjunga.
Once at the summit, you then return to High Camp and then to Khare. Rather than trekking the entire route back to Lukla, the return journey is by helicopter. The duration of the flight to Kathmandu from Khare is approximately one hour and varies with the weather and the operating conditions.
This Mera Peak Climbing Package covers the gradual trek, acclimatization, preparation to climb, peak experience and helicopter return. The package includes services arranged by Nomad Adventure Treks for the trekking, climbing support, permits, transportation, equipment and other services.

| December | Very cold and dry | Possible but demanding |
The best time to book Luxury Mera Peak Climbing with Heli Return can be the month of March to May and September to November.
Difficulty and Altitude Sickness
The route to Mera Peak is challenging as a result of high altitude, a long summit day, cold conditions and the varying mountain terrain. Trekking experience is useful, but it’s also essential to be in good physical condition. Altitude is also a factor since the summit is at 6461 m (21198 ft).
Mera Peak Climbing with Helicopter Return involves a slow ascent and acclimatization day at Khare before climbing up. Your climbing guide will keep an eye on you all the time.
You may experience symptoms of altitude sickness such as headache, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, or loss of appetite. A slow walking pace, adequate fluid intake, dietary changes and allowing your body to acclimatize will reduce risk. If there are serious symptoms, it is necessary to immediately descend and receive medical care.
Insurance, Visa and Permit
This is where travel and climbing insurance is a must-have. Your policy should include high-altitude trekking, evacuation, treatment and a helicopter rescue as necessary. The package does not include insurance, so please make sure this is arranged in advance of travel.
Most tourists require a valid passport and a tourist visa to enter Nepal, except those who are visa-exempt according to the Nepal immigration policy.
Climbing and conservation permits are organised by Nomad Adventure Treks and these permits are part of the package. These are the Makalu Barun National Park permit, Mera Peak climbing permit and garbage deposit.
Health and Safety
Preparing for a high-altitude climbing trip is important to ensure good physical preparation. Walking, hiking, cardiovascular exercise and strength training can be useful to get your body ready for long days on the trail and high altitudes.
Luxury Mera Peak Climbing with Heli Return is accompanied by various safety measures. The climbing team has oxygen, a satellite phone, first aid and an oximeter. Walkie-talkies are also employed for group-to-group communication and communication with higher camps.

Language and Communication
The local community is mostly fluent in the Nepali language. Other local languages are also spoken, such as Sherpa, which can be heard in the mountain villages. Trekking and climbing staff who work with international visitors use English as their language of communication.
Your guide will give you information about the route, the programme, safety and climbing techniques in English. This is helpful for following instructions in the more difficult parts.
Some basic Nepali greetings can help when conversing with locals. A friendly Namaste is universal and is a good greeting in the villages, lodges and on the trail.
Mobile Network, Internet and Charging Facilities
Cell phones have irregular service throughout the hike. The availability of network service is reasonably good in larger villages but decreases in high and distant areas.
In some lodges, Wi Fi or local services may provide access to the Internet; however, the connection may be slow or not available at high elevations. It is not advisable to rely on the Internet during the climbing section.
Charging stations are available at many lodges and may be scarce at higher elevations. Always use a power bank/power charger and don’t let your electronic devices freeze. In addition, your climbing team has a satellite telephone available to communicate in case of emergency.
Don’ts on this Trip
Luxury Mera Peak Climbing with Heli Return expedition respects the mountain environment and local communities throughout. Decisions at high altitude also need to be made carefully, especially when the weather or physical conditions change.

Cultural Festivals on the Trail
The route to Mera Peak goes through places where Buddhist and Hindu traditions are being practiced in all aspects of life. Local festivals may also be of interest, depending on the year, but they are determined by the lunar calendar.
Dussehra, Tihar, Losar and Mani Rimdu are some of the major celebrations in the region. There are religious ceremonies, prayers and traditional performances, which are closely associated with the Sherpa Buddhist communities in the Everest region that come under the name of Mani Rimdu.
Festival activities may not be available during your Mera Peak Climbing Package, depending on the dates traveled and local festivals. If there is a festival during your hike, your guide will be able to explain the traditions of the area and how to treat it with respect.

Mera Peak Climbing vs Island Peak Climbing

There is more technical climbing on Island Peak, but it is shorter.
For a high Himalayan peak that does not require as much technical climbing, Mera Peak may be a better option if you want to experience the peak. For those who already have some basic climbing experience and are looking for a more challenging climb, Island Peak might be a better choice.
| Feature | Mera Peak | Island Peak |
| Height | (6,461 m / 21,198 ft) | (6,189 m / 20,305 ft) |
| Region | Hinku Valley | Everest Region |
