Introduction of Manaslu Trek with Nar Phu and Thorong La 25-day
The Manaslu Trek with Nar Phu and Thorong La 25-day trip itinerary is one of the ultimate adventurous journeys. It brings you to the most breathtaking natural wonders of the Annapurna region, as well as the Manaslu region’s hidden gems, such as the Nar and Phu Valleys.
This excursion will provide you with a rare opportunity to see old monasteries, quaint villages, rich Tibetan culture, and breathtaking landscapes.
Nar Phu Valley Trek with Kang La and Thorong La Pass is a less-visited trekking route that takes you to an untouched, diverse landscape of Nepal. It offers a distinctive experience like none other. This adventure will push your limits, showing you are capable of more than you think of yourself by resisting all the obstacles you encounter during the journey.
You will travel into the home of Mt. Manaslu, the world’s eighth-highest mountain, which stands at 8163 meters above sea level. Manaslu comes from the Sanskrit phrase for “The Mountain of the Spirit” or “Mountain with a Soul.” The trek takes you through tropical lands at lower altitudes before gradually ascending to alpine valleys at higher altitudes, where Tibetan people live.
Your Manaslu Trek with Nar Phu and Thorong La 25-day trip will start with a seven to eight-hour drive from Kathmandu City to Machha Khola in the Annapurna region. From Machha Khola, you will trek through Jagat, Deng, Namrung, Lho Gaon, and Samagaun with an extra day here for resting and acclimatizing.
The trek then continues through Samdo, Dharmasala, and Bimthang, with one of the highlights being the 5160-meter-high Larkya La Pass. This is the highest point on the Manaslu Circuit walk, with panoramic views of Himalchuli, Cheo Himal, Manaslu, and Kang Guru.
After crossing Larkya La Pass, the route will take you towards the secluded Nar and Phu Valley, passing through the charming villages of Tilije, Koto, Meta, and Phoo. Nar Phu Valley was accessible for trekkers in 2003. This valley is located north of the Annapurna range. You will need special permits to walk in this beautiful valley.
Nar and Phu is the home of Tibetan descent, where locals still follow a semi-nomadic lifestyle with a rich traditional Tibetan culture. Then, you will continue your trek from here, passing via Kang La Pass at 5240 meters, where you can soak in the breathtaking Himalayas like Tilicho Peak, Lamjung, and Annapurna II.
After crossing Kang La Pass, you will descend toward Ngawal, which joins the Annapurna Circuit route. Then, you will continue your excursion toward the Muktinath Temple, crossing Thorong La Pass at 5416 meters, the highest point on this whole Manaslu Trek with Nar Phu and Thorong La 25-day itinerary adventure.
You will visit the sacred Muktinath temple in Mustang and explore the area. Afterward, you will fly to Pokhara from Jomsom and end your trekking journey. Detail Information about Manaslu Trek with Nar Phu and Thorong La 25-day
Best Time
Spring and autumn are good seasons for trekking in Nepal. One of these is the Manaslu trip, which includes Nar Phu and Throng La. These two seasons deliver a blossoming paradise and a crimson canopy. While spring brings blooming rhododendrons and a plethora of fauna, autumn offers clear, expansive views of snow-capped mountains and moderate weather.
However, summer and winter are more challenging. Summer’s monsoon season causes heavy rain, muddy trails, poor visibility, and landslides, while the month of winter can be extremely chilly, with heavy snow and closed high passes. Additionally, the trails are quieter. Due to the high risk at this time, we do not recommend trekking during the winter and summer seasons.
Elevation and distance
This Manaslu Trek with Nar Phu and Thorong La 25-day adventure trip will take you above 5000 meters from sea level. You will start your trekking journey from Machha Khola at 869 meters. At 3500 meters in Samagaun, you will acclimate to cope with your body’s increasing altitude.
When trekking to Bhimthang from Dharmasala, you will first cross the third-highest point of this journey, Larkya La Pass, at 5160 meters. When you travel to Nar-Phu Valley, you will be at 4080 meters in Phu village and 4100 meters in Nar village. Then, you will cross the second-highest point of this trek, Kanga La Pass at 5320 meters from Nar Village to Ngawal.
Finally, you will cross the highest point of this Nar Phu and Thorong La 25-day adventure, Kanga La Pass, at 5320 meters, to reach Muktinath Temple from Thorong Phedi (4450 m) or High Camp (4850 m). Similarly, you will trek around 528 kilometers or 328 miles in this 25-day itinerary.
You will trek approximately 386 kilometers or 240 miles to reach the Phu Village from Machha Khola. From Ngawal Village, you will hike roughly 454 kilometers or 28 miles to reach the Muktinath Temple, passing through many villages like Manang, Ledar, and Thorong Phedi.
Difficulty and altitude sickness
Without any doubt, the Manaslu Trek with Nar Phu and Thorong La 25-day adventure is a tough excursion that will require good physical fitness and great health. Although you don’t need any mountaineering skills, you still need to climb the steep hills to cross the high mountain passes.
Apart from this, you will regularly walk at least five to six hours to reach the destination as per our itinerary. Since the trek goes more than 5000 meters, you will feel the air getting thinner, making it hard to breathe properly due to acute mountain sickness. If you ignore any symptoms of altitude sickness, the consequences can be fatal.
So, the solution to this threat is to avoid alcohol and cigarettes and drink at least three to four liters of water regularly. If you feel sick, don’t push yourself further; rest and inform our guide immediately for help. On top of that, another risk is that the changing weather is at a higher altitude, which creates an obstacle for trekking. So, it is wise to choose a suitable season while trekking.
Maximum and minimum walk per day
This Manaslu Trek with Nar Phu and Thorong La 25-day adventure requires decent fitness. You will hike an average of five to six hours daily in the steep, uneven, and rugged mountains of the Manaslu and Annapurna regions. Without good health and decent fitness, this trek will drain you quickly, making you unable to complete the journey.
The highest hours you will hike will be on days 10 and 18, when you trek to Bimthang from Dharmasala, crossing the Larkya La Pass for eight to nine hours, and when you hike to Ngawal, passing the Kang La Pass for seven to eight hours.
The lowest hours you will trek will be on days 6, 8, and 17 when you hike to Samagaun from Lho Gaun, Samdo from Samagaun, and Nar Village from Nar Phedi for three to four hours, respectively.
Accommodation, Food and Drink
During the trek, you will find the accommodations have twin-sharing, basic, cozy teahouses and lodges, or double rooms. While the lodges offer basic yet comfortable accommodations during these 25 days of the Manaslu trek with Nar Phu and Thorong La, don’t expect luxury – just a warm bed and a welcoming atmosphere.
An important aspect of trekking is the food. Every day, you will get three substantial meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Most teahouses provide Tibetan and Nepalese cuisine, such as dal bhat, momos, and fried bread. With alternatives like spaghetti, pizza, and even canned meats in some locations, you’ll also discover a surprising amount of diversity.
Additionally, drinks like tea, coffee, and bottled water are available but not included. You will also need to cover bar drinks, hot showers, Wi-Fi, and other personal extras along the way by yourself. Staying hydrated is crucial in trekking, so bringing a reusable bottle with a purification system can be one of the smart choices.
